June 30 Gathering

Hi Everyone!
This Thursday we're doing something a little different. Please read the whole post carefully as there are several details. We're going to use this week to serve in our local community - a chance to be the Body of Christ to the world (one of Colossae's main visions).

This Thursday we're going to provide and serve a meal at Hillsboro Homeplate. Homeplate is a non-profit that provides services to homeless youth. We'll also eat the meal with the kids and the other Homeplate volunteers. Small children are not allowed to help volunteer, so if you can find free childcare or just send one parent that would be great. They only need about 10 of us to volunteer.

All prepping and cooking needs to be done onsite in their certified kitchen. Please arrive at 5pm to help prepare the meal and dinner will be served at 6pm. We're going to make a spaghetti dinner, so it should be pretty simple. (Thank you Danny for the suggestion! It hasn't been on the menu in a while.)

Here's what we need for the meal. Please bring enough to serve 40 people and let us know in the comments what you would like to contribute.
- spaghetti noodles (regular and a gluten free option)
- marinara (one version with meat and a second vegetarian option)
- Salad and dressing
- Beverages (no soda- 100% juice, milk or a hot drink is preferred)
- disposable plates, cups, utensils, napkins and non-latex gloves
- Containers/plastic bags for left overs
- If someone wants to bring a baked good for dessert you can make that at home and just bring it

We will also clean up after the meal and should be done and headed out around 8:15pm. Please remember to come at 5pm to prepare the meal. The address is 494 E Main St, Hillsboro (First Congregational United Church of Christ - use the door on the Main Street side by the Cleaners. Homeplate is in the basement.)
***I appreciate everyone signing up by Wednesday night this week. That way I can have time to pick up anything that isn't covered.
Thanks! Lindsey

  1. The Petersons will cover the Marinara sauces (both meat and vegetarian). It will probably be Justin only on Thursday, but I will let you all know if that changes. Go team! ;)

  2. The Joneses, Jeff and Sherry will bring 3 gallons of lemonade and water bottles. How about we bring some garlic bread too. If there is anything else that is needed just let us know.

  3. I have a work meeting until 6, so I'll be late and bring Ziploc bags for the leftovers. We probably won't be able to get a babysitter, so Sarah will likely have to stay with the kids.

  9. Sorry for delay - we've been trying to work out babysitting with the grandparents. We've decided that mark can go for sure and we'll see if I can make it. Looks like the only thing left needed is utensils, napkins and gloves? Did I miss anything? We can bring those 3.
